Well going to Arlesey games is certainly entertaining with 7 goals 2 games running, unfortunately Arlesey were on the bad end of both of them.
For our 1st ever game against Hadley Arlesey were forced to shuffle the pack through injuries but started strongly in front of a small crowd that I think actually had more Arlesey supporters in it than the home side which is the 1st time I have ever said that.
A good volley from James Hatch was well saved by Luke Ward in goal in just the 2nd min and a good ball by Ash Fuller fed Lorrell Smith through but Ward came out quickly to clear. Another good attack saw Fuller and Smith combine well to feed Hatch but his shot went high. Hadley took the lead against the run of play from a corner from a header from Tom Milton after 7 mins that Robbie Ponting got a hand to but couldn’t keep out for 1-0.
Hadley suddenly were on top forcing corners and pushing forward, A good run into the box saw a good ball pulled back to Jeff Idemuda but he shot wide. Up the other end Smith put a ball in that saw a big shout for hand ball but it wasn’t given, but the ball went straight to the other end and the defence failed to close down Idemuda and he hit a low shot into the net for 2-0 on 16 mins.
Arlesey seemed to be in shock, Ibrahim Camara broke into the box and pulled a good ball back to Andrew White who had come up from the back; his good shot was well saved by Ponting before he hit the rebound over. Gemi Buraimoh hit a great shot from the edge that Ponting pushed onto the bar before Buraimoh put in a cross that got its own shout of hand ball, again not given. The half time whistle went to Arlesey’s relief with the 1st 10 mins long forgotten.
Arlesey made a change bringing on Adam Mead and looked better for it and made a similar pressing start as they had in the 1st half but this time they made it count as the hard working Hatch who volleyed on a ball to Jason Darvall and he made no mistake as he rifled the ball into the top of the net on 53 mins for 2-1.
Arlesey kept up the pressure as Fuller hit a good shot that brought a good save from the keeper for a corner. Tom Guiney headed goal ward but another good save kept it out before Hatch turned well only to shoot just past the post. A cross in saw Smith head just past the post as Arlesey were again well on top before again against the run of play an angled cross in from the left was not dealt with by either the keeper or full back and Idumuda had an easy job to head over the line from close in for 3-1 on 62 mins.
This time Arlesey kept pushing forward as Hatch headed just past the post before he stretched onto a through ball that saw him collide with the keeper but also saw the shot he hit just slip past the post. A FK saw Aaron Gooch go up with the keeper, the ball came back to sub Ryan Lamond who shot over. Lamond then put in a good ball that found Smith; he took on the keeper and shot past him for 3-2 on 84 mins.
Just 2 mins later Smith dropped in a ball from the wing that sailed over the keeper into the top of the net for a great goal; 2 goals In 2 mins, Arlesey were sniffing blood and going for the win.
Then it happened AGAIN! On a counter Hadley won a corner and pushed everybody into the box, a free header at the far post was met and cleared off the line but went into the pack, One of the attackers got his head to it and forced it over the line for the home side by Stephen O’Hara to get in front again at 4-3 on 87mins.
Arlesey pushed everything up; Hatch fired in a shot that was pushed wide for a corner; Adam Mead had a shot that was deflected over for a corner and Ryan Lamond put in a shot that just missed Gooch just in front of the goal line. Right on 3 mins of extra time Fuller hit a shot that was well saved by Ward before the whistle went to end a pulsating match.
Well if you want entertainment just watch Arlesey, but the defence must tighten up, the forwards will score so Arlesey must now get the other end of the equation sorted and that begins next Saturday as they entertain Potton at home in what looks a “can’t miss” game.
