A must win game today, and thats what Arlesey did coming back from Fleet with 3 points and a 0-2 win. Although the home side won the toss the elected to play up the steep slope of the ground it was Arlesey that used this to there advantage. With several players missing their were 3 new names on the team sheet for Arlesey today along with Ash Farooqui who came on as sub last week and of course Yemi Adelani who scored on his debut last week.

Playing down the slope Arlesey started much stronger than of recent weeks and absorbed any attacking options from the home side.On 18 mins Rafe Goodman made a good pass that found Taylor Rhiney on the edge of the box, he brought the ball down and controlled it well before beating 2 defenders who were close by and slotting it past the diving keeper for 0-1. Arlesey were well on top as crosses came in and the keeper did well at the feet of Adelani. On 30 mins Goodman again found Adelani in the box and he made a great turn and rifled the ball past the keeper for 0-2 and his 3rd goal in 2 games. Arlesey kept up the pressure down the slope and the keeper did well again at Adelani's feet but it finished at 0-2 at HT.

With the home side attacking down the slope in the 2nd period it was the prevorbial "game of two halfs" but Arlesey defended well with new centre half Hamilton Bunga prominent along with Joe Steele and indeed the pitch also seemed to be working for the home side as it did some very strange things to the ball, one shot bounced viciously right in front of Bart and looked to have popped over him but he managed to claw it away. Arlesey introduced another new player in Fabian Brown-Johnson and soon after Rhiney broke up the hill but the ball seemed to get slowed in the grass and his shot was saved by the keeper but he really should have done better. Again Fleet pushed forward but the feeling was that Arlesey had enough in the tank to keep them at bay as they defended a series of corners well.

Manny N'Daw also on his debut worked hard on the wing to break out when he could and although for most of half Fleet were attacking Arlesey had another great chance as Adelani found Brown-Johnson but his shot was not good enough to beat the keeper. With 7 mins added time played Arlesey secured their 1st league win of the season.

Adelani & Rhiney Combine For 3 Points

18th September 2017

First points on the board today with a well deserved 1-1 draw at Barton that again could have been a win.

On a roasting red hot bank holiday this could easily have been a banana skin but Arlesey did their homework, set up properly, worked hard and go that important 1st point on the board. With both sides working hard it looked like that "bad luck" streak was still following Arlesey as after 32 mins without being under undue pressure Luke Abraham tapped a ball back to his keeper but he could only look on in horror as Bart slipped and totally lost his footing and they could only watch the ball trickle over the line for a hardly deserved lead.Arlesey were absorbing the Barton attacks but not creating enough chances at the other end and it stayed 1-0 at HT

2nd half with Barton playing down the slope Arlesey again worked hard and kept the home attack out with some good saves and blocks before on the hour mark they broke out with kye Andrews who found Tony Williams who attacked the box before finding Kim Forsythe who beat his defender and slipped it under the keeper for a well deserved equaliser.

Arlesey should have had a 2nd as Taylor Rhiney broke through but his shot was well saved by the keeper. Despite the home side putting some shots that Bart saved well and one that hit the bar and a few corners that needed defending Arlesey kept things tight and got their deserved away point.

21st August 2017

Despite some reports Arlesey started their 50th season in the FA Cup with a 3-1 win against Desborough. Arlesey made the perfect start as a long clearence dropped into the "uncertain zone" right on the edge of the box, Kim Forsythe raced toward it with the keeper and you could see the forward was going to win but the keeper made contact with Forsythe who won the ball. Definite penalty as Forsythe went down,. Last season it would have been a straight red for the keeper but with rule changes only a yellow and the pen which was duly dispatched by Forsythe for the perfect start after just 2 mins.

Arlesey kept up the pressure with both wingers easily outpaceing their full backs almost every time. Desborough had another setback after just 13 mins as the centre half went off holding his hamstring.
With Arlesey pressing it was no surprise as a great combination of Bill Plumpton & Dom Morgillo turned the defence laying the ball back to Rafe Goodman who hit the sweetest drive from 30 yards into the net for a really great goal and 2-0.
Another good ball fed in Tony Williams who saw the keeper coming out and chipped him but this time the ball dropped onto the goal line and somehow bounced over the bar when more than 9 times out of 10 it would have gone in. 2-0 at half time but it really could and perhapes should have been 4.

The second period started as the 1st finished as some exelent passing and 1 touch football fed in Goodman, he faked his shot putting the keeper on the floor before passing the ball into the net for yet another quality goal and 3-0.
Desborough were still working hard and the 11 was fed into Arlesey's box what looked a good tackle stopped him but he rolled over the knee and the ref pointed to the spot for a 2nd time and the penalty was duley dispatched.
Desborough took hart in this and pushed forward more but the big incident came on 77 mins as Goodman was felled with a foul, although the ref gave this Goodman took exception to the foul and lashed out with his boot which led to a mass confrontation on the pitch. Goodman received a very unneccessary red card which spoilt his otherwise excellent day. With subs coming on and an extra man Desborough tried to get back into the game but Arlesey held on for their 1st win of the season and the start of the FA Cup trail.

3-1 Win and We're Into The Next Round

20th August 2017

A 3-2 loss tonight but that doesn’t tell the story of this game. For the 1st 45 mins Arlesey just didn’t turn up and Ashford could hardly believe their luck. After just 2 mins as Arlesey pushed forward a long ball over everybody found the Ashford forward with most of half the pitch with just him in it and as Bart came out he calmly slotted it past him for a dream start for the home side. Arlesey then just didn’t respond and spent the 1st half chasseing shadows. The Ashford 7 went down in the box under challenge from Bart but the ref gave nothing either way despite protests from the forward, but from a free kick on 30 mins a punch from Bart found the 10 on his own on the 6 yard line and he easily headed back into the net for 2-0. On 43 mins a cross came in that again wasn’t dealt with and the 9 had time to sweep a volley past Bart into the net 3-0 at half time with Arlesey not registering a shot anywhere near the target. The 2nd period was a little better after no doubt strong words in the dressing room but still although it was a bit tighter at the back very few passes went forward and the home keeper was still in his "deckchair". With the subs coming on the momentum was slowly moving Arlesey's way but the 1st shot on target came after 89 mins as a good ball from the back finally found Taylor Rhiniey and he turned and beat his defender before slotting home Arlesey’s 1st goal of the season.

Most times that would be that but suddenly Luke Abraham hit a tremendous 40 yard shot that the keeper did really well to get down right at the foot of his post and push around for a corner because it was going in. From the corner the ball came back to Cade Stephens-Abbey and he hit an even better strike from fully 35 yards that whistled into the top corner for his 1st goal for Arlesey and 3-2. Strangely the Ref only played 3 mins of added on time even though we had had 6 subs and the home trainer on at least 4 times in that half and he blew the whistle before anything else remarkable happened. For most of this game Arlesey were quite frankly not good enough but they finished really well so they must take this end of the game forward to the FA Cup game on Saturday, Im sure the manager and the rest of Arlesey will be looking for a positive reaction from this game.

     Defeat Despite Two Late Goals

16th August 2017

A narrow 0-1 defeat today on the 1st day of the season largly due to the Marlow goalkeeper. Marlow worked hard through the 1st period as they tried to disrupt Arlesey's passing game and this to a large extent nulified the game as Arlesey absorbed any pressure that developed from these intercepts.

The games only goal came after 39 mins as the Marlow winger cut in and hit a low drive from a long way out that crept past alot of players in front of him and an unsighted Bart Pedrycz before creeping just inside the post for 0-1.This was the way it stayed untill HT.

The 2nd period saw Arlesey press on more and take the game to Marlow but every time they managed to break through they found the keeper Simon Grant in great form making save after save and even in injury time a treble save whilst on the floor although it has to be said that the Arlesey forwards really should have scored.

A defeat today against one of last seasons strong sides, but its a long season and im sure from this ill soon be reporting on a win.

With the season approaching i thought a small update on the squad was needed. Signing from last season (you will know the surnames if you come along regularly) are Bart, Luke, Cade, Bill, Joe, Dom, Tony, Taylor, Kim, Rafe, and Andre. Coming into the squad are Kye Andrews, Taz Andrews, Djon Gibbs, Callum Gregory, Phil Payne & Harlem Sambu. Also progressing up through our youth teams and last years reserve team are Craig Packham, Charlie Scott & Ryan Lamond. With maybe a couple more to add the squad is shaping up nicely for the start of the season. Make sure you catch the remaining pre-season games so that you can put faces to the new and older names

      Squad Update for 2017-18

30th JULY 2017

A very comfortable 1-5 win today at Stotfold. On a very lush pitch that held the ball up a bit Arlesey started strongly as they attacked and Rafe Goodman picked up the ball and using both feet to round his defender passed it into the far corner of the net after just 4 mins. A mistake with a loose pass let Stotfold in for an equaliser after 8 mins at 1-1 but that was really as good as it got from Stotfold. Tony Williams, Taylor Rhiney and Goodman again had good chances well saved by the keeper before Bill Plumpton who had a really good game throughout headed home from a corner on 13 mins. Although Arlesey kept control and new signing Taz Andrews had a chance along with Rhiney the score stayed at 1-2 at HT.

2nd half was much the same with another new signing Harlem Sambu looking very comfortable on the ball and he hit a shot that was blocked to Goodman, then out to Rhiney who slotted home low across the goal for 1-3. Dom Morgillo had come on and he looked lively picking up a ball from Sambu before shooting low into the corner of the net for 1-4. Arlesey made alot of changes again but kept up the good football and a good move again found Morgillo who fired in a good shot for 1-5.

A good game today although Stotfold were a little disappointing but some well taken goals and the squad seems to be gelling together with and few more additions made and signed on today. Also a few players showed that they could play comfortably in different positions which is very useful info for the season ahead.     (Chris Sterry)

26th JULY 2017

A 3-3 draw today against our new groundshare tennents Baldock. With more than a few "1st team" players away on holiday today it gave a chance for the trialists to impress. Tony Williams looked lively up front and had an early strike ruled out for o/s. He did however find his new strike partner Callum Gregory a little later and he finished well for his 1st goal for Arlesey. Although Arlesey dominated the 1st period with Williams prominant, Baldock equalised from a mistake at the back for 1-1 at HT.

2nd half with a different team again Arlesey went further ahead as Aaron Gooch got in close to head them ahead from a very good corner delivery, and Kim Forsythe put the home side further ahead for 3-1. It should really have been 4-1 from a break away but the shot was well smothered when a simple cross would have given Charlie Scott a simple tap in. From this Baldock capitalised on a poor tackle to pull one back and soon after Baldock equalised with a well taken cross shot. Another good work out that may have answered a few questions on some of the trialist. Next game v Soham Town at home on Tuesday night.

FA CUP & TROPHY Draws Announced

7th JULY 2017

A Bit of a football feast last night as with so many trialists to look at the game ended up being two 60min games with Arlesey fielding no less than 3 different teams, and Hemel fielding at least 2. With possibly the strongest team playing the 1st 60 against Hemels 1st choice attack Arlesey played some nice football with the core of last years squad but went down 0-2 from a well taken free kick and a well taken goal just after the turn around.

In the 2nd game Arlesey took an early lead against Hemels 1st choice defence and the forwards on view looked quite lively but as further changes and the heat started to take a toll Arlesey started to look more    dis-organised which isn't really suprising from players who didn't know each other. Jack Vassey on trial for Hemel scored a couple of reasonable easy goals for him and further goals followed from the by now vastly more experienced Hemel team ending with this game going to 1-5 to Hemel.

A good 1st workout, the core Arlesey side looked solid and played some nice football, a few of the trialist showed some promise, and a few showed that they were not quite at this level yet which is exactly what you want from a 1st pre-season game against a decent Hemel side. All in all a good nights football, bring on the next one.          (Chris Sterry, Football Secretary)
