Spelthorne Sports

Arlesey Town

Miller (3)

A windy and bumpy but quick pitch met Arlesey’s season start in this years FA Vase with a first ever trip to Spelthorne Sports.

Arlesey started brightly with Jalen Miller feeding in Bruno de Brito who hit a shot that was well taken by the keeper.

Wilson Ferreira making his debut was fouled, Brito delivered in a FK that found Miller but he was fouled on the edge of the area, Manny Richardson lined up this FK and got it over the wall and the keeper pulled out a great save to push it wide for a corner that was cleared. Arlesey were pressing well keeping up the pressure and the home side were restricted to long range efforts that didn’t go near the goal.

From a FK Arlesey’s other debutant Herculano     Carvalho latched onto it but he caught a wicked bounce off the pitch and fired over the bar. A great ball in from Ryan Lamond was just taken by the keeper in front of Miller before the home side                   started to find a little space and found their forward but Luke Daley returning in goal for Arlesey made a good save low down.

A home corner also required a save from Daley a couple of minutes later. As half time approached tensions rose a little as the managers “had a word” on the touch line after a heavy tackle on Carvalho. From the FK by Lamond de Brito cushioned the ball to set up Miller who hit an unstoppable shot past the keeper into the net 0-1 and right on the whistle for HT.

Arlesey attacked from the start of the second period Lincoln Gilmartin won a corner, Brito had a shot blocked before hitting the rebound that was well taken by the keeper. A good passing move from Spelthorne saw them win a corner.

As everyone came up a player went up with Daley heading in and putting the keeper on the floor but a foul was given much to the annoyance of the Spelthorne coach who said to much for the ref and was sent off from the dug out. .

Arlesey seemed to take this warning on board and a few minutes later a ball over the top found Miller move smoothly past the defence and on seeing the keeper coming out he cooly lobbed the keeper for a glorious goal and his 2nd for 0-2 on 56mins.

Arlesey made a couple of changes as Ferreira was replaced by Boyan Dimov and Carvalho who was injured after another heavy tackle was replaced by Craig Packham. Just a minute later it was a repeat of the 2nd goal as another ball over the top found Miller and he again lobbed the keeper for his hat trick and 0-3 on 64 mins.

Arlesey were now well on top, Gilmartin hit a good shot that pulled a good save out of the keeper and from a corner Boyan Dimov turned well and fired a great low shot that beat the keeper for 0-4 on 67 mins.

Arlesey made their last change as the influential Richardson was replaced by Saeed Yusuf which may just have changed the balance of the side. Lamond had a long shot that went over the bar before a Spelthorne corner was well met by a late run from the centre half and he headed powerfully past Daley for 1-4 on 77mins.

Spelthorne now has some momentum and pressed forward, Yusuf was booked for a foul on the edge of Arlesey’s area, and as the home side they brought on fresh forwards they pressed Arlesey back. On 84 mins a long ball forward fed a forward into the box and he went down under a challenge and the ref pointed to the spot. This was converted with a low shot for 2-4 on 84 mins, suddenly the home side were back in the game.

Arlesey’s response was to push forward again and they eat up the remaining time, on 93 mins a good pull back by Dimov found Lamond who hit a low shot that was well saved leaving Arlesey to see it out for a good victory and a home game in the next round of the competition.

This was another very entertaining game with some great skills on show, some great goals including Millers hat trick and some more encouraging  debuts.
